CIO Network inaugurated

Twenty Chief Investment Officers (CIOs) from a wide range of (re)insurers gathered in Zurich, on 27 June, for the first meeting of the CIO Network. The event was organised by the Geneva Association and hosted by the Swiss Re Centre for Global Dialogue.

The aim of the recently initiated CIO Network is to provide a forum allowing dialogue on key issues amongst chief investment officers within the (re)insurance industry. It is designed to highlight matters of common concern and facilitate the exchange of information, expertise and best practice approaches.

The first meeting of the CIO Network was structured into four sections: a discussion of the different stakeholder expectations of the CIO; managing short term volatility with a long term strategy; analyst expectations of (re)insurance asset management; and how ratings agencies influence investment policy. The talks provided the basis for lively discussion, a frank exchange of views and some valuable lessons learnt. The conclusions of the first meeting will be published by the Geneva Association.

Participants at the CIO Network all agreed that the first meeting was a great success. It was decided that the network members would attempt to find a further meeting date in around six months.
